The 11th Anniversary of My 25th Birthday

Actually.  I didn't mind turning 36 at all.  In fact, I had a magnificent day yesterday!  I took the day off of course, as one should never have to report to work on their birthday, and actually slept in until 8AM!!  Hung out awhile, got a few Birthday Greetings phone calls, showered, went to The French Quarter for lunch with L2, drank Mai Tai's and ate alligator tail.  We ended up at the Tucson Mall looking for Disney's The Three Musketeers, you know- the one with Kiefer Sutherland and Charlie Sheen in it?  I always forget Portho's real name though.  He was also in A Time To Kill with Matthew McConaghey.  In any case, no luck finding it, so went to the Mart of Wal, where they also did not sell the movie, but got a bit of grocery shopping in.  Came home, hung out with L3 while he did his homework, OPENED PRESENTS!!!!, The DeVroeg's joined us for a MOST excellent steak dinner, and we watched Posiedon before turning in sortof early.  I guess it doesn't sound like much, but I SURE DID ENJOY THE DAY!  When I got to work today, the girls there all chipped in for a Foothills Mall giftcard (which really rocks!) and Eva bought pizza and a really wonderful Strawberry Shortcake Cake for lunch... YUM-Me!

So anyway... I guess there's no way around it now though... I HAVE TO GET INTO SHAPE!  (And not my current shape of a pear either!!!)

Thanks everyone who made me feel so DARN special this week!!

Summertime Haze

Whew... Where DOES the time go?  I just don't know.  Let's see... Since April.... We've been remodeling the backyard to make the tortoises more better.  (The monsoon storms have been kicking our ass in that regard lately)  My Mom and my beautiful little niece Skyla came to visit.  (See Photo Album of niece and nephews that includes this visit)  We went to Big Big Larry's belated Cinco de Mayo party which ended up being Memorial Day weekend.  (See also Photo Album)  My son grew taller than me.  I've reread Angels and Demons as well as the Davinci Code, read Odd Thomas along with Forever Odd, read Goldie Hawn's book, and discovered that Jimmy Buffet is an entertaining writer.  Seen some pretty good movies, including X-Men 3 and Omen 666 (on 06/06/06 by the way) at the theater, Chroncles of Narnia and Aeon Flux at home, and looking forward to next Saturday with the girls and The Devil Wears Prada at the mall.  This last weekend, the 4th of July brought a visit to NM and the fam.  (See niece and nephew Photo Album!)

Okay so I wrote the above on July 8th and it's now August 8th (see the pattern?) and I'm just getting around to publishing it.  What's with all the changes on myspace?  Now it's Windows Live Spaces?  The editing tools are all different.  I don't deal well with changes to how I operate a computer let me tell you.  It took long enough to figure out how to do it in the first place!

In any case, I hadn't published yet because you see that I make reference to two new photo albums?  The neice and nephew photos that I need are in L2's laptop still.  So enjoy the Cinco de Mayo @Memorial Day album!

Another Wonderful Mexico Anniversary!

Another year gone by, and another great anniversary spent in Mexico!  We had a great time on this, our eighteenth!  We FINALLY got out of town on Wednesday about 5:00 PM.  (Vickie-We went home twice after we stopped to say goodbye- can you believe!!??)  Fished on Thursday, and saw at least one whale, but since they rarely travel alone, we are sure there was more than one.  I only got to see the back of one from quite a distance, but had to get a whale tail on Rodeo in honor of the occasion.  L3 was the only one who caught a trigger, big one too!  No picture, but I did get a great one of him captaining the boat!  (See photo album!!)  L2 got a sunburn on his shoulders and I caught one by napping on the bough.  (Did I spell that right?)  Went to Flavios that night where L3 ate a WHOLE FRIED FISH(See photo album!!)  Friday was sort of a blur, but Big Big Larry and Kathy got there earlier than expected, and we ended up at Lattitude 31 where we had a good meal, though the margarita's aren't as good.  We went to Flavios again on Saturday.  (Tried to Friday evening, but Rocky Point was so busy, they shut down the road into the fish markets where Flavio's is!  Never saw that happen before!)  In any case, Saturday's venture to Flavio's ended up with all four of us majorly drunk and though L2 and I quit when we got back to the cabin, Big Big Larry and Kathy ended up needing to sleep most of Sunday!!  It's what happens when you're in Mexico occassionally- there is NO ESCAPING IT!  (Hope you guys are feeling better now!)  We spent Sunday about a 1/2 mile out from shore on Tucson Beach.  L2 bought an island for us!!  He towed us out to sea on the island, which was complete with anchor, munchies, and an ice chest, with one of the kayaks, then fished for awhile off the kayak.  I read a really great book, (Taken by Dean Koontz) that I just couldn't put down!  We both added to our sunburns, though L3 got away unscathed.  Big Big Larry and Kathy headed home on Sunday evening, and we laid low.  A rousing game of Yahtzee wherein I got my ASS KICKED by both the Lawrence's, and then a movie saw us asleep before midnight.  We got up on Monday fairly early and sorted out the cabin and the van.  Made it home by 3:30 or so to three VERY HAPPY TO SEE US DOGS!

Another Whirlwind!

I think we tend to think that time flys and we aren't having fun most of the time.  We wake up and it's October when we just finished cleaning up from our New Years Party!!  We have definitely been having fun lately!  We eneded up not making it to Ren-Fest on the 11th, but that was okay!!

On the 14th, the three of us went to the TCC Music Hall and attended a showing of Dr. Doolittle featuring Tommy Tune himself, which was absolutely fabulous!!  He choreographed the whole show I'm told.  The animal actors were quite wonderful as well.  The horse was a costume with two actors in it, but the rest of the animals were either held by hands or on two sticks by two people dressed entirely in black.  I'd imagine this is a common way to have animals in stage productions, but having not seen many- I don't know that.  You completely forget to pay attention to the people in black, and the animals have a personality all their own!

This past Tuesday, L2 and I went to see Final Destination 3 together!  I won the tickets on KLPX, and by the time we went to see it, it had already been playing for 4 or 5 weeks.  We went on a Tuesday, to the Grant Road 16 Plex, and had the whole theater to ourselves!!  That was cool.  Our own private showing!  The movie had even more gruesome deaths in it than the first two did!  "Rollercoaster".. can't get it out of my head!!

Wednesday night I went to see Sherlock Holmes at The Temple of Music and Art with Nancy.  Neither of us had ever been there before, and were impressed with the architecture.  It is a beautiful theater.  The show was very entertaining, and we were both especially fond of Moriarity's character.  He was very loud and arrogant as he should have been!  Before the show, we enjoyed a wonderful meal at Caruso's on Fourth Avenue.  I hadn't been there before.  It's a great little restaurant.  Been there for generations.  Isaac and Allison joined us for dinner too.  Nancy, lets not let it be so long for our next encounter eh?

Thursday, L2 left for Choya and a Boys Fishing Trip.  I can't wait to see those pictures!!  He should be back this evening.  It will be great to sleep soundly as I sure miss him when he's away!!

Friday night brought a girls night out at my house, complete with a spaghetti dinner I'm told was great.  Monique, Vicki, Regina, Heather and Janice- I'm glad you all finally got to meet eachother!  I've been wanting you to for quite some time!  We enjoyed three rounds of Pokeno, and hope to get it on again in the near future!  That cake ended up  being pretty damn good didn't it!?!?!?

Saturday after Sinfonia and Orchestra pictures, L3 and I went down to Rainbow Guitar as Lawrence hadn't ever been there.  Thanks for all your help Denny!  (He's the guy to see if you need help with Guitars of any kind!)  Lawerence played a Gibson Epiphone to a one man audience very impressed with his abilities.  Then he picked up a $1600 PRS Guitar which Denny promptly plugged in to a $2300 Orange Amplifier!  It was fun to see him play them, but I've advised that sort of price most likely won't ever be paid by us for him.  Never say never of course!  We left there and headed for Red Sky Studios on Fourth Avenue where we picked up L2's anniversary present from me, (18 years next month!!) which I can't wait to give him!!  The Fourth Avenue Street Fair was in full swing, and there were TONS of people milling about!  We were starving, so we headed directly for Bison Witches, where of course we had to get on a waiting list, but it was worth it.  By the time we got out of there, the vendors were closing down as dusk approached so we missed out on shopping but that was probably a good thing!

Today, I'm taking Lawrence and his girlfriend Jessica to the movies.  I'm of course, dropping them off.  It wouldn't be cool to have your Mom go with you on your first date!

Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig oraibh!

I was afraid that our tradition of poker was not going to be realized this year.  The Wandrin' One has been a busy boy these last several days.  A party on Friday and again on Sunday, with multiple appointments on Saturday in between made for a "catch you in the hallway" kind of weekend for us!  L2's Tat Party on Friday ended a bit sooner than he'd expected, so we got to stop in and say HELLO AL AND KAREN!!  SKIP AND LORI!!  THE MULTITUDES!!  We only stayed for about 5 minutes.. not even long enough to have a Coke and A Smile!  (Though Pua is sadly no longer waitressing, so we may not have gotten one had we ordered it!)  - Great to see you and your kick ass nail job too by the way!!  Our best wishes and thanks for all the times you remembered what we wanted when we forgot!  L2 and L3 ordered then picked up Domino's Wings on the way home.  I went home and called Patti (Hey Girl!) to tell her about all the old faces I seen and heard about that evening.  After our wings were recooked as they should be on the grill, (about 11:00pm!) Gerard and Monique came over for a beverage, and YAY McINTYRES!  The tradition stays alive!!  Didn't we play together last year as well??  In any case, I did a good job of losing my dollars, but L2 did a great job of winning it from all three of us!!  Miss Monique now... I just put my cards down and you'll tell me if I won...  That's not going to work for much longer Miss Ma'am-  you better watch it!!  Thanks for the game and great time!

What a Great Day!

Indeed it were.
We had planned for an early morning garage sale but woke up at 8:30 and decided it just wasn't the right day to do that.  Laziness ensued.  For me anyway.  I found my Dad online and we got our first chance to chat for what seems a really long time!  At least a couple of fortnights!  Is that a month?  In any case, it was great to chat.  Afterwards, I spent most of the morning screen shopping.  "Monsoon/Accessorize" in the UK, got me off on necklaces, then I found the most kickass dragonfly necklace at www.Forzieri.com made by Zoppini.  If anyone is looking for just the right gift...  That then took me to ebay where I admired MANY dragonfly necklaces, and found a store called HolyClothing, where I bought a burgundy top to wear with my new boots from RenFest.  Afternoon rolled around and I fixed tacos for dinner.  Robert and Vickie joined us, as did Carey.  Great dinner conversation evolved, and a rousing edition of The Newlywed Game followed.  This ended with THE MCINTYRE'S victorious.  Robert and Vickie brought a chocolate pie from Marie Callendars which we had for dessert over more great conversation!

Thanks Guys!  Vickie, don't forgot to get on that Jamaica research.  Lets see about lay-a-way!

So I'm off to bed now.  Actually, I'm planning on falling asleep in the living room watching The Mummy II.

Mammography

Well today marks a historic event.  For me anyway.  For those of you who don't know it, I work for a Radiologist, and our primary business is mammography.  We recently purchased a new General Electric Digital Mammography Machine.  It's really pretty damn cool.  I turned 35 last year, and I've been getting bugged to get my baseline done.  (Mostly by Regina I might add!)  Well, I finally did it today, and it wasn't anywhere near as uncomfortable as I had expected it to be, nor was it stressful.  We have some wonderful techs in our office, and Sheila made me very comfortable throughout the whole thing.  I was very nervous about getting it done, mostly because I see so many women diagnosed with cancer, and having seen my wonderful step-mother-in-law battle the disease only to lose in the end, really made me not want to know if there was in fact something wrong.  It's not a very smart place to be coming from I have to admit now.  Mammography partnered with self breast exams really is the key to early detection, and digital mammography is pretty awesome.  We had a case where the digital detection feature questionned an area that was only 2 millimeters in size!  That could never have been seen by the human eye!  It's absolutely amazing that this woman was able to get a biopsy and take the necessary steps to ensure her continued health and happiness.  If we don't do it for ourselves, lets do it for our families!

Ren-Fest

HUZZAH!

God I love that place!  Saturday the 18th marked our second visit to the Faire this year, and we plan on returning 03/11/06.  Our first visit was opening weekend wherein we secured a pirates outfit for both Lawrence III and myself.  He has a scabbard that I carried a bit whilst he was otherwise unable to, and find myself wanting one as well.  Much Merlot was consumed by me on both trips, and we got to see a Pan.  Very cool.  See the photo album for details, though admittedly the picture didn't really do him justice.  Our first trip was just the three of us, and the second included us, the De Vroeg's, the Wardens, and Mr Knapp with his Momma Jan.  Very wonderful.

The Newlywed Game

Remember The Newlywed Game?  We used to watch it late-night in bed and were usually pretty good at guessing eachothers answers.  Remeber the clothes they wore?!  Classic!  On Lawrence's birthday we went to Toys-R-Us, wherein I secured the 2nd Edition of said game, 'now with over 600 questions' along with the original The Parent Trap 'with The Parent Trap II, as an added bonus'.  (Which by the way, I saw at Costco last weekend for $4.00 less.)  In any case, I've been looking forward to playing the game, and we finally did last night!  Had a marvelous time, but unfortunately didn't take home the new dining room set, let alone the grand prize vacation.  Gerard and Monique took us by at least three questions!  Monique- the guitar cake was fabulous!  Lawrence loved it!  Thanks guys, for a great time!

My Baby Boy is officially a Teenager today

Wow.  What do you say to that?  I say that Lawrence is the greatest gift I have ever been given.  To have "a little piece of immortality" (what's your guess moviegoers?) is incredible.  He never ceases to amaze me.  From his grades, to his compassion for others, to his guitar playing, to his wonderful sense of self and humor, right down to his suddenly long hair and darkened upper lip amidst a room that just won't stay clean.  Every day brings a new idea from a wonderful imagination and another day I am blessed with his existence.  Thank you God.

Evita

Vicki and Robert,

Happy Birthday Miss Ma'am!  Remember, bow to THE QUEEN!  I hope your day has been nothing but roses and O-faces!  Thankyou so much for last night!  It was most awesome.  I would not have experienced EVITA if you hadn't instigated it!  The morning of.. it was 'Day Eight' of the remodel..... I was so not into going out.  (It's amazing how much time 'not getting anything done' takes!)  Staying up until 1:00-2:00 in the morning and getting up at 6:30 can really wear on a person, as you can imagine!  I should have gotten more sleep, but I have to admit, that even being sleep deprived, I thoroughly enjoyed the show!  I was, admittedly, a bit sleepy at the intermission, but the capaccino really helped!
 Thanks Robert!

I must admit that I was bit unseated with regards to your impending move.  I wish you two all the best, but will miss my "friend-who-thinks-uncharacteristically-like-I-do".  I've really enjoyed getting to know the two of you on a personal level.  You are a kindrid spirit who believes ask not unto others..... In any case, EVITA was quite a show.  I graciously thank you for the experience.  Wicked in Houston sounds awesome!   My favorite character was definitely the general guy.  (Antonio in the movie)  Always had texture on my arms when he was singing.  I'll have to check out the Madonna movie now.   So you guys enjoy the rest of your weekend, and we'll see you for Must Love Dogs with the new speakers and wood floor!

I love you man!

Poker With The Ladies

Ladies, how great to see you last night.

Janis- great enchilada's and I love your new place!  Thanks for recipe.
Heather- Thanks for driving!  (And for getting us out of not being lost at Circle K) OH YEAH... And for winning the money that Janis didn't!
Connie- Absolutely WONDERFUL to see you out and about.  You work on that bluffing thing.  Good luck the next time you play for clothing with Dan!

Lets try and do this again in the very NEAR future!  In fact, I believe that I'll volunteer to cook for the next one!

Post Holidaze

What a whirlwind!  To all of you who sent Christmas cards, Thank you, and I'm still working on my letter!  We spent four days at Mom's, and got to see everyone except Mike and Joey.  I sure hope to see you two soon.  Nettie Belle, honey, Miss Thing... Wow.  Actually, all of my nieces are amazingly tall from the last time I saw them!  More hair and teeth too!  I met little Kayla June for the first time too!  Such a sweet baby!  We had a great time of course, and got to visit some old friends.  Alan, Becky, Greg.. here's to a great coming year.  Mom hand-made something like 34 stockings, each fabric chosen specifically for that person.  I don't know how she pulled it off!  Mine was done in Frog fabric of course, L2's Tartan, and L3's Music Notes!  Wonderful goodies in every one!    We left Mom's day after Christmas, so I could go to work on Tuesday.  (ONLY so I would get paid for having X-Mas day off of course!)   In any case, I put in my time and then went to see The Goblet of Fire again, Thank-you-very-much-Monique!  What a fabulous movie!  They just keep getting better!  The next day, (though not anywhere near as soon as L2 was hoping), we headed down to Choya!  Our favorite place to be!!  We were but 3 of 27 at final count New Years Eve.  Great to finally meet Bambi, Melody and David's families.  I went fishing twice, L2 thrice, and L3 once.  I actually baited my own hooks, removed a crapload of rockbass, and did some bait cutting!  I forgot my dramamine on a hangover New Years Day, and didn't feel so hot, but had a great time nonetheless.  My first trip out I caught a sea snake and we saw a couple of seals playing with a fish.  That was awesome.  The De'Vroegs' joined us on the 30th, and we stayed until January 3rd!  The longest time we've ever spent consecutively.  How fabulous and blessed our holidays truly were.

Just for Happy Hour?

So Val, and Joi...  Just happy hour eh?

I must admit it was a blast, We must do it again soon!  It's a damn good thing we (Joi and I anyway) ate while we were at TCB!  And how lame was Fox and Hound?   I wonder if the "bartender" at The Leopard Lounge is still scratching her head about that tip!?!  I did enjoy that Grease music at The Keys!  Sorry to hear about what was left in your wallet too by the way Val.

I will remember what you said, and try to be more aware foryou next time!  I think I may just actually drag you away instead!

I ended up at Abners when I left you, had four more, then we had some friends over after close.  This meant that I was not well all day yesterday!  I spent the whole damn day in town too, for my sins.

In any case, Thanks again ladies!

Trans-Siberian Orchestra

We went to this spectacular Christmas Concert last night at the TCC.  It will definitely be a tradition for as long as they continue to play Tucson.  The laser lights, the pyrotechs, the music, the feeling... it was awesome.  There was an electric violin player from London, and she ROCKED THE HOUSE!  Of course, they all did, but she was definitely a highlight!  The show lasted about two and a half hours, which was quite a bit longer than I thought it would.  L3 added to his growing collection of concert tees, and bought the sheet music for "Christmas Eve and Other Stories" as well.  We were told that the pyro stuff was new this year.. Can't wait to see what happens next year!!
